    The Last Trimester

Don't know who knows me who's actually reading this.  For those of you who do know me, you've been reading my baby updates on my Facebook profile.  But to give this blog some attention, I'll write a little something.

On Tuesday, the last day of June, I'll be in my last trimester, my seventh month, my twenty-eighth week of pregnancy.  At the end of last month, Gregg and I found out we're having a girl.  Just for fun, I checked out a baby gender predictor on thebump.com today and the result was a girl.

In our first year of marriage, just for fun, I looked up baby names on thinkbabynames.com.  I was actually Googling the meaning of a friend's name, and that site came up as a search result.  You could search names by meanings and I thought it would be cool to give our possible future daughter a name that meant "faithful" since it seems to be one of those characteristics we see less of in our world today.  One of the results was "Leala" and it was of French origin.  I'm part French Canadian, so I thought it was the perfect name.  [laughs] Through a friend's Facebook comment I found out that "Leala" was a popular girl's name in... I think 1880; sometime in the 1800's.  I did find this to be true on a baby name website today.  Maybe that's the website where she found out that information.  Gregg liked the name "Heart" for a girl, so our daughter's name will be Leala Heart Fields.  All the meanings I've found for "Leala" from the different baby name websites have been "loyal, faithful, loyal one".

My original due date was on my birthday, September 22.  A couple different ultrasounds predicted September 17 and 16.  I had a dream that I had a baby girl with golden hair on September 19, which this year, is on the Jewish holiday, Rosh Hashanah.  I thought that was interesting.  It was just a dream, but maybe it will turn out to be a prophecy.  Okay, feel special because I didn't share that on my Facebook.

Gregg and I have had fun registering for baby things.  My friend is throwing me a baby shower at the end of next month.  Preparing for the baby to come helps me look forward to the actual day of labor.  I don't know what to expect entirely, but I keep telling myself that plenty of women have done it and survived.  Not to mention the women who have done it several times.  It's a sobering reality what a big responsibility a child is.  I mean, this is for life.  I daydream sometimes about ways I can be a good mom and other times I think about the fact that I'm not going to be perfect.  But I'm confident with God's help to live selflessly, I'll do a pretty decent job.

    Oh Baby!

Since changing jobs, I haven't had regular access to the Internet.  I feel like I haven't been online in FOREVER.  I've survived, but it was nice being in touch with my online friends.  Since it's been awhile, I don't know who's going to read this, but I'm almost 3 months pregnant.  I've been wanting to post this exciting news for awhile now.  I just had my second ultrasound this morning and it was so exciting and precious.  I am so thankful to have had a pretty easy pregnancy so far (maybe it's an answer to my grandpa's prayers, or the genes I inherited from my grandma).  The only major symptoms I've had have been fatigue and some dizziness.  So thank God.

In other news, I've been enjoying my full time job as a Medical Records Assistant at a Rehab and Nursing Facility.  I work with GREAT people and I have a job that keeps me busy.

I don't know when I'll be on here again.  By my next appointment next month, we may be able to found out if our baby is a boy or girl.  I will make an effort to get online and let you all know.

    The "One Anothers" of Scripture

A few days into the New Year, while I was still at home devoting time to spend with the Lord, waiting on Him and trusting Him to provide a job for me, I was listening to an old podcast from Francis Chan.  I think it was a part of his "Membership Series" about Serving.  Well, God really spoke to me and I had to stop the teaching and pray and I was inspired to write down a vision statement for this year.  One of the parts to my vision was to practice the "one anothers" of Scripture.  I haven't been able to look them up online until now!  So I thought I'd share.

Mark 9:50 Salt [is] good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another."

John 13:14 If I then, [your] Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

John 13:35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

John 15:12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

John 15:17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

    Romans 12:10 [Be] kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another;

Romans 12:16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Romans 14:13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in [our] brother's way.

Romans 14:19 Therefore let us pursue the things [which make] for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

Romans 15:5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,

Romans 15:7 Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.

Romans 15:14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

1 Corinthians 6:7 Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather [let yourselves] be cheated?

Galatians 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not [use] liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Galatians 5:15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

Galatians 5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Galatians 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Ephesians 4:2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,

Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, putting away lying, "[Let] each one [of you] speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.

Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 5:19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

Ephesians 5:21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,

Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also [must do].

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 3:12 And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we [do] to you,

    1 Thessalonians 4:9 But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

Hebrews 3:13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,

Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as [is] the manner of some, but exhorting [one another], and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

James 4:11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.

James 5:9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned.  Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!

James 5:16 Confess [your] trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

1 Peter 1:22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,

    1 Peter 3:8 Finally, all [of you be] of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, [be] tenderhearted, [be] courteous;

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins."*

1 Peter 4:9 [Be] hospitable to one another without grumbling.

1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

1 Peter 5:5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to [your] elders. Yes, all of [you] be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.

  • My 2009 Mission Statement

Because I love God, I will keep His commandments (the Law of Love) to love Him above all with every part of me, and to love others like I love myself.  [John 14:15; Matthew 22:37-40]

I will practice the “one anothers” of Scripture, especially within church gatherings.

I will not waste time practicing sin but will instead serve others, enabling me to fulfill the mission God has for me.  [Hebrews 12:1-2; Galatians 5:13]

I will succeed at my mission by putting on the whole armor of God, remembering and holding on to the verse God gave me for 2009:

“Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.”

I've had a lot of sweet time with the Lord lately.  I am back in the process of finding work after feeling a peace about God calling me to take a break from job hunting last month.  I was feeling so far away from Him.  NOTHING is more important in this life than my relationship with God.  Well, obeying produced its fruit!  I haven't been this close to Him since before I got married about a couple years ago.  After listening to a few teachings in Francis Chan's Membership Series for his Cornerstone fellowship in Simi Valley in 2005, I was inspired to write out the above mission statement for 2009.  I'm anticipating the divine in 2009 (my mother-in-law helped me out with that one).

  • Christmas Traditions

I just sent the following email out to all my family and friends:

Okay, so I've been dying to ask for awhile what traditions people have for the holidays.  Since I've only spent one Christmas married and on my own, I don't have too many traditions started.  I did get to decorate my first tree last year.  Gregg and I also decided to give each other one present to open on Christmas Eve, which is the tradition with some of you.  That was nice.  We both picked the movies we had wrapped for each other and picked one to watch that night which was It's a Wonderful Life.  I think this year's Christmas Eve movie will be A Nativity Story.  My parents were over too and received their gift from us since it would be the first time I wouldn't be spending Christmas morning with them.  I also tried to start a Christmas morning tradition of making a special breakfast for Gregg.  It was a recipe I got out of my Gooseberry Patch Holiday cookbook.  This year I asked Gregg what some of the traditions he grew up with were.  One of them was that his mom made his favorite Vanilla Wafer, banana pudding dessert.  One year I guess she found red and green Vanilla Wafers.  Gregg gets excited about that memory every time he tells it.  So I'll probably add that as a Christmas Eve tradition this year.  [laughs] I also learned from my sister-in-law, Ellen, over Thanksgiving vacation with Gregg's family out in Texas that all the kids were barricaded in a room Christmas Eve with snacks, movies, and games to keep them preoccupied while their parents wrapped their presents in the living room.  Ellen and Gregg would find ways to sneak out of the room early in the morning while it was still dark outside and take a peak at what their presents were.  But that stopped when Gregg was I think 16 because he felt bad about it.  When Ellen told me that I thought proudly, "That's my Greggy."

I would love to hear about your Christmas traditions.  Maybe I'll adopt some of them as my own.
